Books:

The music theory book convinced me it is finally time to learn the piano. Alas, the make myself marketable project has had me spending more time in Java books than at the (musical) keyboard.

Speaking of Java books, I’m seriously considering getting a Kindle2. It turns out Oreilly makes a bunch of their books available in multiple electronic formats, including Kindle format. Technical books, what with all their examples to type in, seem to be really good candidates for reading electronically. No more dealling with trying to get a fat book to lie flat. Also when the state of the art has passed the edition by, 6 days after it’s published, I wouldn’t have a pile of dead tree sitting on the shelf never to be cracked again. Rather than getting a Kindle2 I could just open a PDF on my computer screen, but especially on a laptop that doesn’t leave a lot of space for other windows. Anyone else out there feeling Kindle2 lust?

Wild Weather Indeed

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

My casualties in last nights weather were one tree

one mailbox

and OH MY GOD!!!

Do the weather gods not know I have shows to watch? It will be a week before someone is out to reposition this thing! <grumble>

In reality I’ve probably lost two trees. The one that fell has a twin on the other side of the walkway. Neither have ever been very healthy since we moved in, so now is a good time to go ahead and just rip them both out. Anyone have any replacement suggestions? I’m thinking peach trees.

And as if my soffits weren’t already in sore need of rehabilitation:

All over the neighborhood are downed fences. My fence, which has been slowly falling down since I moved in, looks as though nothing happened.

For those who know where my gallery is you can look at larger versions of these pictures along with some of the neiborhood damage in the Traivor’s Albums Toys Hedge Hollow > April ‘08 Storm Damage album. I got off easy compared to the neighbors. Now I know my roofer did a good job…
